Your tree is in the stand and beautifully decorated.  Now what?

1. Give it a fresh cut Before putting your tree in the stand, saw off ½–1 inch from the base. This opens up the pores so the tree can drink water again.

2. Get it in water right away A cut tree can start sealing over within an hour. Place it in water ASAP after cutting the base.
3. Keep the stand full of water Trees drink a lot the first week—sometimes up to a gallon a day. Never let the stand run dry, or the base can reseal, and it won’t take up water again.
4. Avoid additives Tree preservatives, aspirin, sugar, or bleach aren’t necessary. Plain tap water works best.

5. Choose a good location Keep the tree away from: Heating vents Fireplaces Space heaters Direct sunlight Warm, dry air makes the tree drop needles faster.

Remember, when the holidays are over, trees can be recycled by taking them to the North Park Pool area or check with your local municipality.
